I have three main areas of focus:
In pre-Coronavirus times, my vision for Health Proc Europe was that procurement in hospitals should become as important as in the rest of the industry.
In industries with high share of material costs, the purchasing managers are the “rock stars“, operating at the same level as engineers. Health Proc Europe will transfer this image to the hospital: purchasing managers and leads will be of the same importance and relevance as doctors.
Coronavirus has shown us how important this position is. It is literally a matter of life and death. Now all what remains is to implement it quickly.
The second part of the vision was that purchasing managers in European hospitals should network in the same way industry does.Then the massive price differences across countries in Europe and the myths, which are nothing more than fairy tales, will no longer exist. The result is quick, very high and sustainable savings.
There is so much outstanding expertise in the health purchasing departments and, additionally, the whole Health Procurement Ecosystem. If we share this together, my vision will very quickly become reality.
The coranavirus crisis is acting as a catalyst.
The position of the buyer will be massively upgraded over the next five years. Similar to what we see now across industry.
However, there is no free lunch! For this to happen, the buyer must build up competencies and skills. We can learn a huge amount from looking at other industries.
